These articles, essays and thoughts are written here as in order to invite dialogue, comment and feedback, and in some cases just so that some people can access them when they are referred to in workshops and teaching situation.

I am not a writer! But I enjoy trying to clarify and structure thoughts and inspirations that have been growing for some time.

“Music exists with, for and through the human being and is a teacher of harmonious global citizenship based on individualism. This belief is essential to all my work in one way or another. An intention with my composition is to bring the modern human being into a fruitful relationship with music and to stimulate the listener and performer to go beyond merely ‘consuming’ music, towards a creative listening to music.

We respond in such complex ways to acoustic phenomena and we are mentally stimulated by the challenge to understand this. And yet we cannot think our way through to an understanding of a given musical phenomenon unless we engage in dialogue with it and first discover our own bias towards it. When these acoustic phenomena are transformed into an artistic musical event we have the chance to encounter the sacred. We benefit therapeutically, educationally, socially, physically and spiritually, from the pursuit of creating music, even as audience-members.

When we are active in such positive deeds then this helps to change and better the world. I perceive the gulf between what some performers and composers deem to be contemporary music and what the uninitiated is capable of absorbing and relating to and I see a purpose in bridging this gulf. Our time is not just the decade we live in but the last few centuries at least. Values hang around for a long time, and that is important to acknowledge. I am totally committed to the reality that musicians have a vital role to play in bringing about a change in the global human climate.
